Washington Township, NJ (December 20, 2023) – On Tuesday night, a Philadelphia ABC news helicopter crashed in Wharton State Forest, which claimed the lives of the pilot and photographer aboard, and federal investigators are now investigating.
Just after midnight, state park police discovered the debris in a forested area along Mullica River Road in Washington Township, Burlington County, after fielding reports of a missing helicopter in the area. The 6ABC WPVI in Philadelphia hired the helicopter via U.S. Helicopters. The chopper reportedly went down at about 8:00 p.m. The Eurocopter AS350B2 helicopter had just two passengers, according to Wednesday’s FAA confirmation.
Officials state that the helicopter went down as the crew was returning from a job at the Jersey Shore. At a news conference, New Jersey State Park Police Chief George Fedorczyk said the accident investigation would be postponed until later in the morning due to the accident’s isolated location and limited overnight visibility. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials and members of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were due to arrive on Wednesday, according to Fedorczyk, who said that the NTSB would lead the inquiry. No further details about the victims or suspected cause of the incident have been provided in the interim.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims.
