Unity, PA (October 18, 2023) – A man was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital by medical helicopter early Tuesday after his SUV was involved in a collision with a coal dump truck on Route 30 in Unity.
According to Scott Graham, the fire chief in Marguerite, the SUV’s driver had to be cut free from the wreckage of his car after it collided with a tri-axle truck in the eastbound lanes at the junction of Marguerite Road. Graham said the motorist was transported to a hospital in another city from the neighboring Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Unity.
Graham said that the coal truck driver had refused medical attention at the scene.
The SUV had to be tethered to the mountainside with ropes before the coal truck could be moved off the road.
At 6:50 a.m., the fire departments in Marguerite, Lloydsville, Pleasant Unity, and Dry Ridge were sent to the location of the accident.
No further details were released, and it’s unclear how the incident occurred.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their loved ones in hopes of their full recovery.
