Philadelphia, PA (August 7, 2023) – A SEPTA trolley was derailed early Sunday morning following a collision in Philadelphia’s Kingsessing district, and police are still investigating.
Officials say the incident happened at the corner of South 52nd Street and Chester Avenue shortly after 6:30 a.m.
On Sunday, authorities stated a car ran a red light and struck a trolley, causing the trolley operator and three passengers to sustain injuries. A SEPTA representative said that police caught the vehicle’s driver as he or she attempted to flee the area.
SEPTA said on Twitter that shuttle buses would substitute for trolley service while the accident was being cleared and investigated. This is the ninth incident this year involving SEPTA cars.
Officers with the Philadelphia Police Department say their inquiry into the collision is ongoing.
