Philadelphia, PA (September 19, 2023) – Officials in Philadelphia are investigating a deadly hit-and-run that occurred on Roosevelt Boulevard on Monday.
Police in Philadelphia report that a 42-year-old man was killed just after midnight on Monday when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Roosevelt Boulevard at Revere Street.
The cops arrived to find a man lying in the middle of the northbound lanes. The police stated he was pronounced dead at the scene, though his identity was not released.
According to the police, the driver fled the scene. But the cops recovered a bumper that pointed to a Toyota Prius from 2010 to 2015 as the likely offender.
An investigation remains active in the interim.
We extend our sincere condolences to the deceased man’s loved ones.
Pedestrian Fatalities in Philadelphia
Pennsylvania’s yearly statistics show an increase in both the frequency and severity of pedestrian accidents. While fatalities decreased in 2016, there was an increase in the number of accidents that occurred on American roads. Signalized junctions have had a 20-year rise in deaths, while distracted driving and head-on collisions have seen an increase in mortality during the last decade. The 65-74 age group ranks second in pedestrian deaths and third in vehicle deaths during the last two decades.
In addition, the number of pedestrian deaths throughout the nation has risen dramatically during the last decade. The Governors Highway Safety Association projects a 13% increase in road deaths between 2010 and 2020, with a 54% increase in pedestrian fatalities.
Pedestrian accidents may happen everywhere, but roadways, sidewalks, and parking lots are particularly high-risk areas. The rising frequency of pedestrian accidents in our state highlights the need to provide victims with information about their legal rights and remedies.
