Egg Harbor Township, NJ (November 8, 2024) – One person had to be extracted from a vehicle following a head-on crash in Egg Harbor Township Thursday afternoon, November 7.
The EHT Police Department says the accident happened just before 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Mill and Orchard Roads. An initial investigation revealed that a 2015 Toyota Camry was traveling westbound on Mill Road. As it approached the intersection with Orchard Road, police say the vehicle veered into the opposite lane.
A 2016 transport van, which was traveling eastbound, attempted to swerve and avoid the Camry. As the Camry continued westbound, it struck the front driver’s side corner of the van. The collision caused the car to be lodged under the transport van. At least one of the victims involved was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Trauma Unit for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
However, details about the accident have not yet been released as an investigation is still ongoing, and no citations or charges have been filed in the interim. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact local officials.
Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their families in hopes of their full recovery.
Head-on Collisions in New Jersey
Per the crash types list maintained by the New Jersey Department of Transportation, head-on collisions can happen whenever two vehicles intending to travel in opposite directions hit head-on, just as the name suggests. This usually happens when:
- On a road, one or both vehicles cross the unbroken center line.
- A divided median is crossed by one or both vehicles.
- A car on a divided roadway goes the wrong way.
That said, collisions with heads-on can occur at any place. According to the latest research supplied by traffic analysts in New Jersey and beyond, 75% of head-on collisions take place on rural roads. Moreover, on unbroken two-lane roadways, head-on collisions account for 75% of incidents, while rural roads account for 83% of two-lane undivided road crashes.
