Clifton, NJ (July 22, 2024) – Route 3 was closed in the Clifton region after a truck apparently carrying hazardous materials crashed into a wall and exploded, killing the driver and melting the siding of homes on the other side.
Officials said the truck was rear-ended by a bus at around 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 22, on the eastbound side of the highway before it crashed through the wall near the Valley Road exit and exploded into flames. Witnesses captured video of the moment the truck exploded as it crashed through the wall and into backyards on Normandy Road on the other side.
Drivers were diverted off the highway in both directions as crews rushed to put out the flames. EMTs responded to assess injured victims, though officials confirmed that the body of the truck driver, a 55-year-old man from Linden, was discovered after the fire was extinguished. It’s unclear if anybody else was hurt in the incident. Traffic was backed up to the Garden State Parkway as officers cleared the area. However, the inquiry is ongoing at this time, and no additional details have been provided.
We offer our sincere condolences to the deceased man’s family. Our thoughts are extended to any injured victims and their families now. We hope for their full recovery.
Fatal Truck Accidents in New Jersey
Although the rate of truck accidents in New Jersey may be lower than that of other types of collisions, the results of truck accidents that do occur are almost always disastrous. About 110,000 people in the United States suffered serious injuries from truck accidents in only a single year.
Moreover, there has been an almost quarter increase in deadly truck accidents nationwide over the last decade. Sadly, truck accidents were up across New Jersey by around 50% alone. If you’ve been hurt in an accident involving a commercial vehicle that wasn’t your fault, you should discuss your legal options with a seasoned attorney as soon as possible after you’ve sought medical attention.
Before moving forward with the compensation claim process, you should seek the advice of a lawyer who specializes in these types of injury claims. Due to the often convoluted nature of truck accident cases, an attorney will help you with all parts of your claim, including determining who could be held liable for the losses you have sustained.
