Chambersburg, PA (August 12, 2023) – An accident on Pennsylvania’s Interstate 81 on Wednesday night claimed the lives of five people and a pet, per local authorities.
Around 8:50 p.m., a tractor-trailer pulling two trailers collided head-on with a recreational vehicle (RV) that had a front left tire blow out and had crossed a grassy median into the northbound lanes.
The RV’s four occupants, a family, and their dog, were all killed in the collision. The tractor-trailer driver was also declared deceased at the site of the accident. It took over 10 hours overnight for police to clean the site and reopen I-81. The road was reopened early Thursday.
However, the investigation remains ongoing, and no further details were provided.
