Cape May, NJ (May 20, 2022) – An erratic SUV driver struck and killed a pedestrian and crashed into several other vehicles on the afternoon of Sunday, May 15th in Cape May.
At about 4:10 p.m., police responded to reports of an out-of-control driver heading towards Cape may over the Route 109 bridge.
According to officers, a 51-year-old driver from Lafayette Hill, PA. collided with a 63-year-old woman who was walking on the sidewalk on Lafayette Street.
An eyewitness reported seeing an SUV about to crash into an oncoming van when the driver tried to veer back into the roadway and struck the victim.
Police have not established how fast the SUV was traveling when the accident occurred.
The driver continued up the road striking two vehicles and a telephone pole.
The 63-year-old victim, a woman from Marlton, was pronounced at the scene.
According to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, both the driver of the errant SUV and his teenage passenger were taken to the Cape Regional Medical Center with unspecified injuries.
This accident is under active police investigation.
