Motor Vehicle Accidents in Philadelphia
The vast majority of people automatically associate deadly car accidents with those that occur at high speeds on the highway. However, this is not always the case. According to research conducted by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, the number of people killed in car accidents on typical city streets has risen dramatically in recent years.
Unfortunately, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia are not immune to this trend. More than 1,000 people were killed in traffic accidents throughout Pennsylvania over one recent, as was reported by the state’s transportation agency, showing that this grim trend is an unfortunate reality in our state. Moreover, these crashes range from simple fender benders to devastating multi-car pileups and are even worse when they involve large trucks. Some of the most common causes of crashes reported in the Commonwealth include but are not limited to the following:
- Hitting a building, stationary item, or parked vehicle.
- Crashing into another vehicle at an angle (often while merging or running a red light).
- Back-to-back or rear-end collisions.
Even if you are one of the safest drivers around, you will probably be involved in a car accident at some time in your life due to the rising frequency of crashes. Because of this, you should prepare for an accident by familiarizing yourself in advance with the steps you need to take to protect yourself legally and financially after a car accident. Adding insult to injury, if a victim is left unable to work as a result of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident, the at-fault driver’s insurance company may attempt to avoid paying for the policyholder’s long-term care, as well as lost income and future earnings.
