Bear Creek Township, PA (December 4, 2024) – State police reported a deadly two-car crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike that killed a woman over the weekend, and officers have since released further details about the incident.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, a two-car crash occurred on I-476 in Bear Creek Township. Police say a car entered the southbound lane through the Wilkes-Barre Interchange but traveled north on the southbound ramp. The auto continued to travel north in the southbound lane while a second car was driving south. The driver of the second car was not able to avoid the first car, and the two collided head-on, troopers stated.
The passenger of the second car, a 65-year-old woman from Scranton, later died at the hospital. Both drivers were taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley for their injuries. Police have not provided any details on what may have led to the crash, but officers are still investigating.
We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim’s family. Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims in hopes of their full recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Crashes in Pennsylvania
Research and statistics from the last year show that in the state of Pennsylvania, head-on collisions, T-bone collisions, and rear-end collisions are the most common forms of vehicle accidents. Drivers in Pennsylvania need to be extra cautious since the state averages over 20,000 accidents involving multiple cars each year.
Rear-end collisions often occur because of reckless driving. Most rear-end incidents in Pennsylvania are caused by drivers who are careless and reckless and who ignore traffic signals. What’s more, identifying who was to blame in a car crash may be simple most of the time, but it may be far more complicated than you’d think otherwise.
In a rear-end accident, your injuries will be proportional to the other driver’s speed. When one driver suddenly applies the brakes, the car behind them often has little choice except to slam into them, causing an accident.
The person who rear-ended you and seriously wounded you should pay for your medical bills and lost wages if you were not at fault. Unfortunately and unfairly, after a vehicle accident leaves a policyholder with several damages, the insurer may fight against claims for long-term care expenses and reimbursement for lost wages and future potential earnings all too often.
