Ocean City, NJ (January 18, 2022) – A man was killed in a fatal pedestrian crash that took place in Ocean City on Thursday, January 13.
According to Cape May officials, the accident happened around 11:28 a.m. at 700 Asbury Avenue. Police confirmed that an 83-year-old man from Ocean City was walking in the area when he was suddenly struck by the side-view mirror of a Ford Explorer operated by a 33-year-old man from Philadelphia.
Numerous responders, including Ocean City paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene to help. The pedestrian was rushed to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with severe head injuries. He later died there due to these injuries.
Police determined that the driver that struck the pedestrian was driving with a suspended driver’s license. He has since been charged with driving with a suspended license and causing an accident resulting in serious bodily injury. Police also discovered that he had warrants out for his arrest.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time as police cleared the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
