Philadelphia, PA (May 10, 2022) – In the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 10, two pedestrians died in a major car accident at a SEPTA station that took place in Philadelphia.
The driver involved, described only as an adult male, was allegedly traveling at excessive speeds around 2:45 a.m. when he lost control on a curve near the station. His Honda Pilot SUV went through an intersection and jumped the curb before crashing into a SEPTA turnstile and the wall of the Kensington and Allegheny stations.
Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said the building sustained severe damage, and a man and a woman who were on the sidewalk were hit and critically injured. EMTs attempted life-saving treatments at the scene, though both victims were pronounced dead just after 3:00 a.m.
A third victim, a 53-year-old man, was also hurt and taken to Temple University Hospital in stable but serious condition. The driver reportedly died at the scene.
No further details have been made public, but the accident investigation is underway.
